I was born in a land where mystic tales of gargantuan proportions were quite commonplace. And while nobody really knows whether we’ve managed to charm even a single snake over the last thousand years, the folklore continues.
And no, this analogy is not going to be an easy one to, well, swallow.
Part I — The Mountain
A long, long time ago, there was another world just like ours, with one little detail changed — nobody had ever seen a mountain. The people lived in quaint towns and villages in a seemingly endless valley, forever chained into the musings of their own, tiny existence.
Some people dared to travel, yes, but their feats were often limited to shores that lay inwards of the waters of the valley.
A very rare breed of people had felt the mountain in ways more than one, sometimes scent, sometimes absence, and almost every reason that this group found to embark upon the journeys that they undertook eventually, was for the most part inexplicable. So inexplicable, in fact, that stories had to be invented and written about these people just so that the impact they had on the world later could be justified with the literature that carried their legacy forward into the…
